Carnevale of Spiders

@creator: this will not give you points. The idea behind AC is to provide all cards with only the base game needed. Also the writing can use some iterations. What is a hauntingly quick move exactly. How do spiderwebs course. How does a dull chant sound. How do arachnoid webs engulf anything without the presence of the arachnoid actually weaving them. You don't surrender consciousness, you only lose it. spend 1 clues -> 1 clue, 2 clues. the screams of many more are uncountable - what?

On the plus side, not many spelling errors (only worshipping = british where US spelling is worshiping - US spelling is used in the AH:LCG throughout). And not much material needed.

While there is a desire out there to not need a lot of expansions to play fan scenarios, I've also seen requests for more scenarios that don't require as many cards be printed. It's very hard to do both. By using existing cards like this scenario and the FFG expansion "Read or Die" do, you can accomplish eliminating the hours of cutting and sleeving more easily while still providing a new experience. I'm actually really intrigued by the design and wonder how much it takes the circular layout that both Carnevale and Weaver uses and then changes/enhances that design space.

Now, while some of your wording critiques are fair, I think some come down to style choice. I can absolutely hear a dull chant (It sounds muffled). Something that moves faster than expected could very much haunt my thoughts, and therefore be described as hauntingly quick. And in cases where you've given up the fight to retain consciousness, I absolutely don't see why it can't be stated that you have surrendered it. That wording implies a resistance that 'losing consciousness' does not imply.

I haven't yet played this, but I thought it was an interesting design, and may even be easier to get to the table than other fan scenarios for those who don't want to do a lot of printing and cutting.

I'm not saying you don't make valid points. I'm just offering a 2nd perspective.

What I really want to know is how it plays.

That's the idea, Seth! Though it's a little bit awkward, it's not impossible to play Carnevale of Spiders using the required encounter sets, a few scraps of paper, and the Spiders images on a phone!

FFG's publication of Read or Die has a valid commercial reason: it might boost sales of expansions.

The convention here at Arkham Central is to provide all cards needed. I'm just saying while the current deviation is reasonable, it should be stated explicitly, hence the warning.

You also inherit complexity in separating to set up CoS, and later resorting the cards back to their original expansion - every time you play CoS. With a separate deck there is no such barrier.

I have no need for commercial expansions, the base game suffices. I hope you will like the carnevale of spiders.

Yes, the warning would be useful to a lot of people, and happy someone made it so it wasn't confusing to people with less experience (like those that haven't played Read or Die).

And it is true that while you are not cutting out and printing a lot of cards, you are still required to do a bit of extra collection management to pull all the required cards from your collections, so that's good to note too.

um no, you'll be printing, cutting, gluing and cutting cards anyway, whether you do 10 or 50 matters very little.

Don't quote me, but I believe the Carnavale stand-alone scenario, the Dreamlands Deluxe, and the Weaver of the Cosmos mythos pack.

Yes, in the setup instructions, it says you need Carnevale of Horrors, The Dream-Eaters, and Weaver of the Cosmos. Plus a Core.
