Would it work with only the base set?

Reply

Red_Rob · 2022-04-08

This campaign also requires the Dunwich Legacy as it uses some of the encounter sets in a few scenarios. This is mentioned on the first page of the Campaign Guide so it shouldn't trip anyone up.

If you can tell which enemies and quantity I can see if I can find the cards for them

in reply to Kos

It isn't really enemies, but if you check the Campaign Guide for the Setup pages it will list the Encounter Sets needed for each scenario. I've highlighted where a Dunwich Encounter Set is used by listing (Dunwich Legacy) after the name of the set. If you want a list of all the Dunwich encounter sets used I can put one together.

okay so it's just a matter of some thematic enemies. What I found online https://derbk.com/ancientevils/sorcery/ https://derbk.com/ancientevils/the-miscatonic-museum/ That's all, correct?

1 dragon like enemy and 8 treacheries mostly themed around the veil. That's easy to proxy.

The previous upload was missing the Disruption Deck, but that's now been fixed. If you downloaded before this comment you can re-download and get the missing cards.

Any chance the card files with bleed margins will be made available for those of us who like to professionally print these custom campaigns?

Reply

Red_Rob · 2022-04-11

I haven't as yet, mainly because I'm sure this initial version of the campaign will have some typo's and bugs in it's initial release. I'm also waiting for feedback on the general difficulty level, and any specific niggles people have which will then probably involve some tweaks to specific cards or scenarios.

Once I have some feedback, and have fixed any bugs or errors, I'll put out a "final release" with higher quality images and including the cards with bleed.

Reply

finral · 2022-04-11

Thanks, I'm also interested in those bleed files. From skimming through, looks like nice work!

I have been slowly formatting the PDF files to be professionally printed through a printing agency, and I must say that what I have seen so far makes me very anxious to play this campaign in full. I should have the scenario 1 cards (+ disruption and generic encounter sets) shortly and will be playing this campaign as soon as I have everything printed off. Please keep us posted about which cards receive changes and updates because I will be printing off revised copies as needed down the road. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Eric, that's much appreciated! I do have to say I'm not sure the campaign is ready for professional printing just at this stage. I will try to get everything updated and revised as soon as possible.

Hi Red_Rob, thx for sharing this campaign. I've printed and tried half a run of the first scenario and I really like theme and how well the two investigators from the core set I was running (Daisy and Roland) integrated into the story.

I was confused with one thing though (MINOR SPOILER ALERT);

Agenda 1a "Entering the order" says "Carl Sandford gains..." and agenda 1b "Alerting the order" says "Move Carl Sandford...". Yet at this point in the story he was still out of play for me. Was he supposed to have been setup in the Third floor library as part of the scenario setup?

Looking forward to have another go at scenario 1 soon! 😊

Reply

Red_Rob · 2022-05-04

Ah, whoops. I rewrote the setup a few times and must have omitted that line. Yes, Carl Sanford should start play in the Third Floor Library if you are attending the midnight initiation ritual. I'll get that added to the Campaign Guide. Thanks for giving this a try, and let me know how it goes. If you find anything else that seems unclear or incorrect just drop a comment and I'll roll all the fixes into a revised version.

Kodor-Kaal · 2022-05-04

Thx for the clarification and following up promptly. I'll surely report back if I find anything else that seems out of place!

Reply

OK I found the cards for Sorcery (p11): two dots under a half circle:

3x Beyond the Veil 3x Visions of Futures Past

Dunwich (p16): the mill sign (not the inverted triangle) 2x Sordid and Silent 2x Unhallowed Country

Can you confirm that the game expects these cards only?

Slight update - the Disruption Deck had some cards cropped incorrectly in the previous release, this has been fixed. I've also fixed some compression issues which were making the text artifact at some resolutions, so if you downloaded before this comment then simply redownload to get the fixes.

Do you have a list of what cards received substantive/major changes, so that I can reprint the ones that have changed significantly?

Reply

Red_Rob · 2022-08-17

Hi Eric, the majority of the changes were fairly minor to clean up wording or make things clearer. The Campaign Guide was rewritten in a few places and had a number of edits to scenario setups. The majority of the functional changes were to the Encounter cards from Scenario 1, some of the locations to Scenario 4, the Agendas & some locations from Scenario 5, and the Terrible Comprehension card from Scenario 7.

Generic Encounter cards x3 Blunder in the Dark

Scn. 7 x3 Terrible Comprehension

Are there any other major changes that I have missed?

Hi, I am sorry I am relatively new to custom printing scenarios. I am at the first page of the pdf for the GenericEnounterSets. There, we can find the Pack Leader enemy or the Shaman of the Deep. These enemies do not have encounter backs, where can I find them in order to print them? Sorry if the answer is too obvious.

Reply

Kos · 2022-09-14

depends if you print on us letter as an american or a4 as an european. For A4 encounter backs see here my gdrive https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1XOF-1Sf-ENe9rSv3QE5TuOp8FmhyczWV?usp=sharing

Reply

clanegill · 2022-09-20

Thank you Kos! I will use the A4, as I print with a European printer. I have found though that printing US letter at 100% usually works as well in A4 printers. I will use your backs and glue them to the encounters. Thank you very much. I am extremely thankful.

I downloaded the yots but the pdf cards are not exactly sharp (blurry). Could you please make them more hi resolution?

Generic Encounter set needs 4x2 tentacle backs for pages 1,2,3,4,7,8,9.

Scenario 1 pdf (first all rotated clockwise):

1a) i wouldn't put hints to the campaign, that's for players to figure out.

1a) has lead -> has led

you have been called -> you have been summoned

half-starved and wild eyed -> half-starved, wild eyed

2a) from your -> from the

as the members gather -> while the members are gathering

3a) be quick -> hasten

you arouse -> you might arouse

this enemies combined -> (of the enemies) -> the enemies' combined

4a) realise -> realize (AHLCG is US, not British)

2a)drawn notice -> drawn attention

movement -> steps approaching

1a) arouse suspicion -> not really a reason for -> raise some eyebrows

3a) mustered -> mustering

The other -> Your fellow

==

1b) gather -> gather around you.

you join -> you to join

the bag -> the chaos bag

Each investigator, in player order, -> In player order, each investigator

1b) by von -> by Von

3b) Rifling -> Riffling

insane references -> obscure references (insane is later repeated)

I'd say

Skimming the bundle of envelopes you see stamps from Boston, Maine, Scotland, France, Germany and countries you can't place. Opening them one by one you skim the contents , letters alluding to kidnapping..

2b) Suddenly shrill -> Suddenly, shrill

you realise -> you start to realize

2b) dehydrated and wild-eyed -> repetition -> clearly dehydrated and shaking

frantic wife? sounds strange. would just say wife unless she indeed was frantic

page 4

4b) with sounds -> with the sounds

act 3b) pull -> drag

act 3b) we took the letters this text should be copied into the first occurrence, this text is better.

agenda 3b) investigators -> investigator

you pull -> you push

Scenario 2

act 1a) nonsense -> nonsensical

lead by -> led by

act 1b) query "Otto?" -> query. "Otto?"

containing -> contain

and other -> , while other

furher -> any further

2b) Disrupt 1 is a bit too low, move it a bit up.

Lostalus has 2 sides, unclear which side should be up at game start.

scenario 2 page 9-11 seems to be missing encounter backs.

==

Scenario 3

Exploring the cave: rear -> rear end

page 7,8 these are enemies, encounter backs missing

Excavating the temple: empty of -> devoid of; be found -> be seen

by Hancock revealed-> you extracted from Hancock

Searching the Hancock house: stone -> stony; you have -> you had has been -> seems to have been

also missing encounter backs. Maybe add the number of encounter cards needed to printout. A good place would be the Readme file. Also recommend to not mention the WtW but instead a more neutral (spoiler free) reference to the pdf name.

(I haven't checked sc4-8 yet)

Sorry for the long hiatus, however I am now back working on a v1.2 of the campaign. Your suggested tweaks were very helpful and most of them will be incorporated into the new version along with other balance changes based on feedback.

I'm also looking at the best compression method that strikes a balance between gigabytes of download and blurry images. Hopefully I'll have the new version out in the next few weeks.

Reply

Simombo · 2022-10-25

Hi there. Looks great! I am put off by the low quality of the PDFs though. There's not really any need to reduce the PDF size, as they are for print. Do you plan to make better res PDFs by any chance?

Reply

Coldtoes · 2022-11-12

In addition to supporting the requests for print-quality PDFs, I'm wondering if you're planning to export this as individual PNG cards for people who want to get them professionally printed at MakePlayingCards or similar. If so, they should be exported from Strange Eons with bleed at a minimum resolution of 822x1122px.

I know a lot of players like to print well-reviewed fan campaigns so if you're able to provide it in that format I think people would appreciate it!

Reply

Coldtoes · 2022-11-18

Also if you are reprinting, two Strange Eons fixes that will improve your results: To eliminate double-printing of the word "Location" on location backs:

Until I get the new version into the catalog, to get rid of that you’ll have to manually install the test version linked here GOOGLE DRIVE.

Basically, you’d uninstall the current one, download that, and double click it or open it in SE and choose install.

To improve the way the Teutonic font is rendering the card titles on acts, agendas, enemies, and story cards:

If you are on Windows, this may be due to an issue with the font renderer Strange Eons uses. To fix this, you can try adding one of the following lines to your environment variables and rebooting:

FREETYPE_PROPERTIES=interpreter-version

or

FREETYPE_PROPERTIES=truetype:interpreter-version=40

to change the environment variable: search for Control Panel, then go to System, scroll down under Related Settings to Advanced system settings, then you should get a box that has a button for Environment Variables

Open that box, and click New... and enter FREETPYE_PROPERTIES as the variable name and one of the two strings after the = sign above as the value.

Save and reboot.

Sorry for the long hiatus, however I am now back working on a v1.2 of the campaign. I'm actually not sure what you mean by "double-printing of the word "Location" on location card backs"?

Checking the image files I have it looks like it is only printed once?

Note that there is an error in the campaign log for the first scenario.PP5 There are three options to set up the act and agenda decks. The first and the third are the same. There is an Act 1 Explore the Lodge that isn't referenced anywhere. I presume it's for the third option as it matches the title (kind of) you entered the lodge to investigate further. I'll construct the act decks by process of elimination, but it should be corrected.

Unfortunately, it looks like the creator is no longer following this thread. There are quite a few typos/ missing sentences which proof-reading would have sorted out. The most important one is on the Entering the Order agenda for scenario 1.

Forced : After you successfully investigate whilst an enemy is present at your location : If you cannot, instead place 1 doom on that enemy. The question is, If I cannot what?

Reply

Eric F Martin · 2023-03-15

My copy reads: "Forced: After you successfully investigate whilst an enemy is present at your location: Place 1 doom on that enemy."

You adaptation of this Call of Cthulhu classic has inspired me this past year to design my own adaptation of Horror on the Orient Express for Arkham Horror: The Card Game. I have 13 or the planned 16 total scenarios completed in rough draft form and have been running Norman Withers and Tony Morgan through my first playtest. I want to thank you personally for inspiring me to attempt this massive project, which probably would not have been possible without seeing your own tremendous contribution to our beloved LCG. Please keep me posted when you plan to release an update for Shadows of Yog Sothoth and I will be anxious to see the changes that you have made. The first draft isn't perfect, but it explores a lot of sophisticated mechanics and interesting ideas. When I'm done with Horror on the Orient Express, perhaps I'll tackle the biggest granddaddy of them all: Masks of Nyarlathotep. I have recebntly been dipping my toe into that ocean with an adaptation of the Peru prologue from the 7th edition version of Masks.

Reply

Red_Rob · 2023-05-09

Hi Eric, it's great to hear you were inspired by my efforts! As Arkham Horror was originally inspired by the CoC RPG I thought it would be a really fun challenge to try converting one of the old classic campaigns. Great minds think alike, I originally considered Masks too but decided to set my sights a little lower for my first attempt. I think SOYS having a more linear throughline did make things easier. Horror on the Orient Express is another classic and I'd be interested to see your take. 16 scenarios sounds like a real beast, are any of these optional? I tend to find that after 7-8 scenarios with a deck I'm starting to feel like I've seen everything and ready for a switch-up. I agree the campaign still needs a little polishing in a few areas, but hopefully the updates I'm adding along with higher res images will encourage more people to try it and perhaps give feedback. I'll comment here once the updates are ready to download, along with maybe starting that TTS conversion I keep putting off... :)

My 'Epic' campaign, Horror on the Orient Express, is 16 scenarios that cover all of the main chapters in the CoC campaign.

  1. London
  2. Paris (research mostly)
  3. Charenton Asylum
  4. Chez Lorien (where you get Simulacrum piece #1)
  5. Lausanne
  6. Milan (Simulacrum piece #2)
  7. Venice (Simulacrum piece #3)
  8. Trieste (Simulacrum piece #4)
  9. Dream Zagreb
  10. Belgrade (Simulacrum piece #5)
  11. Sofia (Simulacrum piece #6)
  12. Constantinople
  13. Orient Express (train ride back to London, Part I)
  14. Ditto (Part 2)
  15. Ditto (Part 3)
  16. London

There are at least three main bosses, who show up at different times, and six of the scenarios take place at least partially on the train itself, so that's a thing players get to experience that was largely lacking from the original CoC campaign. The last three chapters are still "in progress," but probably when I finish the Peru prologue that I have been designing for Masks of Nyarlathotep, I will get back to finishing the Orient Express campaign. Masks of Nyarlathotep will be a longer 'Epic' campaign, but divided into seven 3-scenario mini campaigns, each centered around a specific geographical location. I am working on Peru right now, and am making good progress. I will keep you and other Arkham Horror players apprised of my progress.
